Description:
THIS… is a 1961 Volkswagen Type 2 Single Cab Pickup, finished in a classic two-tone red and white exterior over a red vinyl interior.
The Type 2 Single Cab was derived from the iconic VW Bus and features a rear-mounted, air-cooled engine, allowing for a flat cargo floor and excellent utility. The drop-down bed sides on all three sides provide easy loading, with additional storage beneath the center bed section.
This example spent its early life on the West Coast and was restored in 2009. Mechanical work and final detailing were completed by Paul Willison of Brumos Porsche. The truck has since benefitted from a recent fuel system service and is powered by a 1200cc air-cooled flat-four engine, producing approximately 40 horsepower, paired with a 4-speed manual transmission.
The exterior presents well with white bumpers and chrome accents, while the truck rides on steel wheels with chrome hubcaps wrapped in Sprint Classic 165/80R15 tires.
Inside, the cab is trimmed in red vinyl upholstery with contrasting white welt piping, a white steering wheel, and a matching gearshift knob. Instrumentation consists of a simple round speedometer, and a working AM radio is fitted. Seat belts are also present.
As an original single cab pickup, this Type 2 is rarer than standard VW Bus variants and represents a highly desirable, authentically restored example that captures the spirit and utility of early 1960s Volkswagens.
