Description:
THIS… is a 1968 Shelby GT500KR, finished in Special Paint #WT6066 over a black knit vinyl interior.
Two significant updates made late in the 1968 model year contribute to the rarity of this low-mileage example. In April 1968, Ford introduced the 428ci Cobra Jet V8, which replaced the 428 Police Interceptor as the standard engine in the GT500. To distinguish the updated model, Carroll Shelby secured the rights to the name “King of the Road,” and all Cobra Jet–powered cars were designated GT500KR.
Around the same time, Ford released a limited selection of six special-order exterior paint colors, of which only 86 cars were produced in this particular color. This example is identified as Shelby no. 4010.
With its desirable Cobra Jet powerplant, special-order paint, and sub-50k-mile presentation, this 1968 Shelby GT500KR represents a highly collectible and exceptionally rare late-production Shelby.
